Summer is not quite over yet, but fall is already upon us. Last Friday was the first chilly day this season. Already there are trees that have leaves that are starting to change color.

The work on the first half of the Telescope mural project has finished for this year. The painting segments show scenes from the 1920s, when Telescope came to Granville, through the 1950s. The new look is much improved from how it appeared before. Improvements were also made to the buildings in preparation for the mural. Painting will resume next summer. In the meantime, however, the completed part of the mural is a wonderful sight to see. Jordan Flower is a talented artist with his paint work, as can be seen from the part of Telescope mural done so far, the "Welcome to Granville" mural on Main Street, and the paintings he has done of scenes around town.

Construction of Middle Granville's future Dollar General store is progressing. The foundation has been completed. The frame of the store is being constructed. New power lines have been wired in preparation for the store.
No opening date has been announced at this time, but at the current pace the store will open this year. No official word has been received on the fate of the Granville Dollar General in the Village Plaza (Grand Union strip mall), although the statement released last year in response to this matter implied that the Granville store will stay open in addition to the new store opening in Middle Granville.

The former Pyrofax Energy office building on East Main Street has been sold. The storefront has been renovated with a fresh new coat of paint, which improves the appearance of the building. This building has been vacant for some years. Hopefully a new business may open here in the future and join the ranks of Granville's Main Street businesses.
